Brunei Sungkai 2018: Emperor’s Court Sungkai Buffet
One of the better places in Brunei to have good halal Chinese food and dim sum, I’ve always looked forward to Emperor’s Court Sungkai Buffet. This will be the third year in a row for my family to have sungkai dinner here as the service here has been very good. I also like the fact that there’s plenty of parking space at the Hua Ho Manggis Mall Basement Car Park ~~ so even if there’s heavy rain ~ we don’t worry about getting wet!
Spacious – and different table sizes catering to different groups ~~ child friendly too as there’s ample space for the kids – and child seats on request!
If you want some privacy – be sure to book early as these VIP rooms are very popular – first come first serve basis
Let’s get to to the food – I always enjoyed their soups of the day – The menu is rotated daily – and while Emperor’s Court is a Chinese cuisine restaurant – they try to include a good mix of local Malay cuisine as well.
Naturally – every table will have a plate of dates for breaking fast ~~
The salad bowl ~ for those who love to start their meals with veggies ~~
For Chinese cuisine, we live to start off our appetizers with what we refer to as cold dish such as this spicy tanghoon salad ~~
Marinated baby octopus and jelly fish ~~
This cold appetizer is actually fried crispy prawns with a mint leave honeydew sauce ~~ really tasty! I must had taken quite a lot of these!
This is my favourite cold cuts of the night! Chicken cold cuts with jelly fish ~~ delicious!
Now it’s time to check out the hot appetizers – notice how when we Chinese eat- we will have hot and cold appetizers to start the meal? Here’s their fried breaded salad rolls ~~ mmmm ~~~
You can never say no to crispy spring rolls ~ *DROOLS*
Deep fried hand made chicken meatballs ~~~
Fried crispy taro and sweet potato fritters ~~ aww yeahhh!!
They also have a rojak buah station ~~ woo hoo ~~
Naturally I combine the rojak buah with the crispy fritters ~~ good combo!
My first appetizer plate ~~~ mmmm what is that delicious looking lamb chop you ask?
These are their coffee lamb chops ~~ savoury sauce with a hint of coffee ~~~ lamb lovers must try this!
Simple down to earth chicken curry that will go so well with the steamed or fried rice!!
I really enjoyed this assam curry red snapper with eggplants and lady fingers ~~ thumbs up!! Would you take a look at that beautiful fried snapper!
Spicy stir fried baby kailan ~~ one of my fav veggies!
A popular dish – the stir fried black pepper beef ~~ tender slices with a kick from black pepper sauce!
The buttermilk prawns are GORGEOUS! #buttermilkprawns is awesome!
You can always expect good fried rice from a reputable Chinese restaurant like Emperor’s Court ~~~ I like to drizzle the curry chicken over this!!
There’s also stir fried noodles tonight ~~~
They actually have spaghetti bolognaise!
Did I mention – this tastes a bit like Jollibee’s? LOL! Really enjoyable!
There will be different live stations depending on which day you go ~~ today we have roast duck and roast chicken ~~~
Ooo would you look at that!!! Any roast duck fans here? Mmmmm
Roast chicken and drizzle some saucy goodness on them!!
Curry Noodles live station ~~ which I took the liberty to add extra sambal for more kick ~~~ not too spicy for me ~~~ on other days they will have other noodles ----
This beef soup noodles is from last year’s photo – but they serve this on alternate days depending on the menu – this is my fav because I love beef tendons! LOL!
They got buttered corn too ~~ mmmmm ~~~ comfort foood here ~~~
I was happy to see Ambuyat Live station for today’s menu! Woo hoo ~~~~
Enjoy with tempoyak dip! Note that ambuyat is rotated with other live stations so it is available on certain days only ~~
For desserts – there’s make your own ABC ~~
They have a good selection of Kueh this year ~~
Mmmm kek lapis anyone?
Fresh fruits platter ~~
Haven’t really seen these type of kuih before ~~~ interesting!
Signature honeydew pudding ~~ mmm ~~ I always add these to my sago dessert ~~
It’s taro cream sago tongsui ~~ mmm ~~
I can easily have 3 bowls of this! HAHAHAH!
These tiny kuih boms are so cute!
My guests of the night Ziqah and Shirley enjoying the sungkai buffet at Emperor’s Court ~~
Free flow drinks for the night ~~
