Brunei Sungkai 2018: Cheezbox Sungkai Buffet

Many people look forward to CheezBox's Ramadhan buffet every year because they had been consistent in delivering crowd favourite dishes for their sungkai buffets for years! The buffet consist mostly Chinese and Western as well as Fusion cuisine but the main highlights of their buffets include their freshly baked bread sections, the crab station, choice of delicious pastas, make your own pizzas, roasted lamb or turkey, sushi and tempuras as well as their famous signature cakes and ice creams. I always look forward to their Sungkai buffets as they have quite a number of my favourite things to eat for buffets!

Regulars for Ramadhan buffet fans of CheezBox will be familiar with that their buffet line format which is divided into two floors ~~ this has been the format for many years of Cheezbox restaurant ~~ almost like a tradition already ~~ must be some good fengsui (but I think it’s the good food) that keeps bringing in loyal customers for their buffets!

This year I have Brunei Food Diary with me to enjoy the buffet ~~ always exciting to eat with fellow foodies ~~

A key addition this year to their buffet is the popular Pan & Wok – your favourite healthy bento and salads specialist – a very exciting addition to their already good line of buffet choices!

Now your healthy eating gym buddy won’t have an excuse to say no anymore ~~ there’s plenty of healthy delicious salads for them to enjoy – and I’m sure they always tapao from Pan & Wok ~~ why not just join you for Sungkai ~~ you can have your indulgence while they can have these healthy fresh tasting salads ~~~ but I’m sure they will sneak in a cheesecake and ice cream or two ~~ LOL

I have to say – I’m also a big fan of Pan & Wok and to be able to pick from these array of fresh salads is a good way to start my Sungkai! YUM!!

Naturally of course ~~ one must start with dates too ~~ I wonder if they could make special date appetizers next time ~~ mmm ~~~

I don’t remember these pickles in last year’s buffet so they might be a new addition! Friend Hazidee tells me these are good so be sure to try them ~

Wait ~~ is that …. SALTED YOLK FISH SKINS?! OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG ~~~~~~~~ even Thanos will infinity gaunlet couldn’t snap his fingers to stop me from grabbing the whole plate righ now I tell you ~~~ ok ok .. I’m sorry Thanos .. I’ll share some with you okay ~~ *yay – no need to spend $20 to buy Irvins lol*

Let’s not forget there’s a Japanese section for appetizers too!

Pizza and Pasta go together! Cheezbox’s pasta station is also very good ~~ where you can choose your type of pasta and different Cheezbox signature pasta sauces to choose from ~~

Mix and match the sauces with your fav type of pasta ~~

The fun of mixing the pasta sauces ~~ mmm doesn’t that look good?

They also have a fries and chips section with dips ~~~ but what I like to do is to kinda make my own nachos~~ take these chips ~~ add some of the dips – then add some pasta sauce from the pasta section! HAHAHA! Instant Nachos!

Chips with pasta sauce? mmm ~~ feels like New York style fries ~~ this is being creative with the Sungkai buffet ~~ combine and create!

Cheesy buns? Yum! Cheezbox’s famous fresh baked buns are also a signature of their Sungkai Buffet ~ simply sooo much choice!

Gorgeous soft pandesal buns are sooo good with creamy soup!

Soft baked buns with teriyaki chicken anyone?

The swiss bread, baguette and foccacia are new additions to their bread section this year ~~ for those who like artisan breads ~~ be sure to have some slices!

Enjoy with some jam ~~ or peanut butter ~~~ kaya ~~~

Their laksa is always a welcoming sight! Easily can have two bowls of this – and I always add extra sambal for more kick!

Banana fritters anyone?

Crispy murtabak with curry sounds like a good idea ~~~ *looks out for the lamb curry*

Popcorn for you to nibble and nibble ~~~ while watching the Royal Wedding ~~ congrats Harry and Meghan ~~

Wow – finally we are talking about the main courses – seriously so much choice until you read also you full already right?! Hmm those grilled corn on the cob looks tempting!

I actually thought it was chicken curry until I looked closely and realized this is LAMB CURRY ~~ OMG YESSHH!!

Crowd pleasing salted yolk chicken ~~~

Ahhh my favourite crispy sour plum beef! Really happy to see this on tonight’s menu! Crispy fried battered beef ~~ stir fried with a sweet and sour plum sauce! If that Masterchef UK chef had tasted this – he will confirm say – OMG THIS IS SO CRISPY AND DELICIOUS!

I like their braised wontons with red oil ~~ usually I can have a whole plate for myself ~~ it’s an all time favourite of mine at CheezBox. I personally can eat this whole tray by myself! It's not available every night but I'm glad that it's on tonight's menu! woo hoo ~~

Gorgeous herbed butter sauce pan seared fish ~~ *drools*

Their signature slow poached salmon and then served with creamy herbs sauce!!

Of course – I save the best two mains for the last ~~ do you know what they are?

Their gorgeous leg of lamb ~~ *DROOOLS*

The highlight of all seafood lovers ~~ CRAB DISH!!! They change their style of cooking crabs depending on the menu daily ~~

Ooooh creamy buttery gooodness ~~~~~ I shall devour you with glee ~~~

Lamb of Leg + Wontons combo ~~~ always a winner for me ~~

For dessert ~~ I like to start with fruits first ~~

then slowly move on to their Asian style desserts first ~ such as this nasi pulut hitam with coconut milk ~~

Longan almond tofu ~~ refreshing ~~

Konyaku Jelly ~~

Sago with coconut milk and gula melaka ~~

Then slowly move on to their western desserts! Their chocolate cake is pretty popular!

Gorgeous custard fruit tarts ~~

Assorted panna cottas and puddings ~~~

They seriously have so much different types of cheesecakes that are cut into just the right bite sizes so you can try as many flavours as possible ~~~

Be sure to look out for their Lavender cheesecake this year ~~ really interesting flavour!

Cheezbox version of bread and butter pudding is light and soft ~~ not the rich heavy kind ~~ you should give this a whiff and be surprised!

They also have quite a selection of home made ice creams, which are part of the reasons people like their buffets, Specially created ice cream recipes by CheezBox! It's a tradition for us to try every single flavour every year!

Their gourmet soft serve ice creams is a new addition too! We had vanilla bean or matcha soft serve as choices tonight ~~

They also have ice cream sandwiches! Woo hoo ~~ childhood favourite ~~

These two are reflecting back to their childhood ~~ so happy ~~ HAHAHA!

I noticed that their drinks are very refreshing this year ~~~

Wash down the desserts with coffee or tea ~~ or both ~~ yinyang style the way I like mine ~~~

Overall, the CheezBox Ramadhan Buffet is very good value for a luxurious spread - add the fact that they didn’t increase their prices despite the extra additions to their menu from last year. It will be especially worth it if you come in groups and take advantage of their buffet passes! It has a good variety of choices to cater to both adults and kids and they have a killer cheesecake and ice cream selection! My advise is always to book in advance as Cheezbox is pretty popular.
