Brunei Restaurants: Berry Wan Hotpot Centrepoint Branch
Berry Wan Hot Pot is actually a household name in Brunei, starting as a hot pot restaurant since I was a little kid at Damuan. Recently they opened a new branch at the back of Centrepoint next to the flower shop and I was excited to check them out!
They took over the spot from Kitaro and revamped it into a place for you to enjoy hotpot ~~ now let’s go inside and check them out ~~
A pretty comfortable and spacious ambience with very cute quotes about food on the walls ~~
This section has a view of the carpark ~~
Gotta love the quotes on the walls ~~
For more privacy ~ you can go for their specially enclose rooms ~~ be sure to call ahead and book ~~~ this is the bigger room of the two ~
Here’s the other vip room ~~ perfect for a small group of friends or family ~~
What’s interesting is the concept of having four types of soups in one table instead of individual soups of your own ~~ that way its easier to share and try as much different soups ~~ if you don’t want fours – they have a different container for two soups only ~~
With so much soup to choose from ~ having four separate sections to try four soups is perfect!
Ooh yes ~~ pour that White Tom Yam Soup ~~~
I’m a fan of laksas so I ordered two different laksas ~~ and also herbal soup and tom yam for a slightly different taste ~~
Wifey and I decided to have a double date with these two lovebirds ~ Becky and CJ ~
As with all hot pot restaurants ~ the fun is always making your own special sauce~!
This prawn and chili flakes condiment is a favourite of mine ~ mmmm ~~~
Mmmm Tom Yam Paste ~~~
Sambal Chili anyone??
Mmm ~~ assam sambal ~~ *drools*
Gotta love those chilies and lime ~~~ compulsory for most Bruneians in their sauce!
Fried garlic, shallots, peanuts and sesame seeds to add texture and flavour!
Drizzle some of these oils for that extra ommpph!!
CJ’s looking for some hot stuff tonight ~~
My sauce of the night ~ this will be really good with those Australian beef and lamb slices! *droools* After we finished making our sauces ~~ our drinks arrived ~~ ahhh perfect timing!
For drinks ~ Mary was in a mood for avocados so she went for an avocado smoothie ~~
This was CJ’s cookies and cream milkshake ~~ but he was too shy to pose with his drink ~~
It was also a pleasant surprise to know that their Cold Pressed juices are $5 only. I think the most affordable at the moment ~~ here’s my apple and celery cold pressed juice ~~
Becky’s Cold pressed Honey Dew Juice ~~
While waiting for the steamboat items ~~ we noticed they have fried nibbles so we ordered some to try ~~ this is the crispy fried mozzarella chicken balls ~~ anything with cheese is a good start ~~
Glorious fried home made beef dumplings ~~
Fried Prawn Dumplings ~~
Fried wontons ~~~
They also got hot food like stir fried noodles and fried rice ~~~
Teriyaki Chicken Don ~~
Cheesy baked prawns ~~~
Oooooh yess!! SOFT SHELLED CRABS!!! ATTACKKK!!!
Don’t ask me why I ordered some beef noodles when I’m having hot pot ~~ I am just in a mood for some! lol ~~ sometimes when you order with your eyes – you tend to order everything that looks good on the menu!
Ahhh our large set has arrived! This set has a good mix of seafood and meat ~~ a good hot pot starter kit ~ haha ~~
Comes with a choice of noodles, bee hoon or rice ~~
This is their seafood set ~~ mm those shellfish will make the soup even nicer!
Hubba hubbba ~~~ Laksa clams and scallops anyone ?
The Mixed Meat set ~~a mix of chicken slices, Australian lamb slices and Australian beef slices ~~~ I can easily eat a few platters of this myself! HAHAHA!
I usually cook the beef and lamb for only a few seconds ~~ until slightly medium done ~~ then enjoy with my sauces ~~~ ahhhhh now you know why I can eat so much of these ~~
I was so happy to see that they have fresh whole sea bass on the menu! They will fillet it for you ~~ and I tell you ~~ having this on a hotpot is divine!
I have to say ~~ the Singapore Laksa soup is sooooooo gooood ~~ and I decided to put the fish head into this! *SPLASH* Down it goes!
Be sure not to overcook your sea bass! Oooooh my gosh ~~ succulent flesh of the sea bass ~~ *cries for joy*
I’m sure everyone’s gonna be fighting for the fish head ~~ *DROOOLS*
Now I know fish pastes are pretty common nowadays ~ but Berry Wan’s version has century egg in it ~~ OMG OMG!
Their Prawn Paste with Ebiko (prawn roe that you see in sushi restaurants) is another unique paste!
Scoop balls of them into the soup of your choice and enjoy ~~ fresh and delicious ~~
Be sure to look out for their in house freshly made fish ball and chicken balls as well ~~
Love the texture of these freshly made balls! Yum!
Home made Yong Tau Fu ~~ oooh yeshhh!
Home made wontons and dumplings are a must try as well!! Oooooh myyy!!
Becky’s fav lobster ball ~~ die die also must order this ~~
Wahhh they got quail eggs on the menu too ~~ a classic soup favourite of mine ~~
Kids will love these cute star fishcakes ~~
They even have nemo ~~ according to Becky ~~ taste like chicken sausage! AHHAHA!
Okay ~~ we let the stars and nemo take too much of our attention ~ lol ~~ stop playin with your food Thanis!
They even have siew mai for your hot pot ~~
They even got Thai Fish Cakes! So much variety!
Hmmm these claws are awesome ~~
These yummy crab sticks are pretty quick to cook and delicious!
Mary’s fav tofu skins ~~
I was surprised to see chicken luncheon meat and the staff highly recommended it ~~~ *shook my head in disbelief but I ordered it anyways to satisfy my curiosity*
Verdict? Surprisingly GOOD! LOL ~~~ be adventurous and give this a try ~~
Oooh gotta love that Singapore Laksa Soup!
White Tom Yam ~~ mmm ~~ *sips the soup*
For something luxurious – they actually have sea cucumbers as well as other canned luxury items like abalone and pacific clams ~~
oooo these are a favourite of mine ~~~ *smacks lips*
Overall ~~ it was an enjoyable double date experience for us and we would definitely come back again – especially for THAT Singapore Laksa Soup ~~ and I’m still drooling about the sea bass swimming in that Laksa soup till now ~~ we might give other types of soup a try ~~ such as the Curry Laksa and maybe their MALA (super spicy) soup a try! Prices here are also reasonable as well
