Miri Food and Travel: Best Cafes in Miri 2017, your Miri café hopping guide!
Café hopping is one of the life’s pleasures for travelers, foodies and coffee lovers – and I’m a combination of all three. Since the last Miri Cafe Guide, some cafes have opened up while some closed down. This will be a new guide to help your Miri Cafe Hopping needs as well as adding in the new cafes in Miri.
Thanks Cyril Canvas for this beautiful shot
Meet d’Brown Café
Located just right opposite Café Murano (which has closed down unfortunately), Meet d’Brown café spots a simple spacious ambience and serves good coffee, savoury brunches and desserts.
As you can see – very simplistic down to earth décor – and friendly staff as well.
Coffee is one of the strong points in this café.
They have savoury choices in their menus but I had quite a big meal before this ~~ but there’s always room for more waffles. Prices are reasonable and staff very friendly as well.
Meet d’Brown, Lot 2991, Grd Flr, Pujut 7/5c, 98100 Miri
Opens Weekdays 9 am till 11 pm. Sat and Sun 8:30 am till 11 pm Closes on Tuesdays
Brewhouse
Brewhouse is located at Permaisuri Imperial Mall in Miri was a convenient place to grab a cup of coffee while your other half’s shopping around the mall. The bad news is that Brewhouse has closed down this branch but has moved to two other locations. To me – they still hold the title as having the best coffee in Miri.
The first branch is at the Boulevard 101 commercial centre area – parking is definitely better here!
They have a pretty good ambience here for having coffee and wine ~~ a lovely spacious spot compared to their closed down branch. A good move for them to be honest though I’ll miss the convenient location of their first branch.
Of course – the reason we’re here is for their coffee ~~~ still good and spot on!
Their other branch is located at Sin Siang Hai Furniture Mall at Krokop 10 – with a different ambience and a very instagrammable front ~
Great catching up with Miri Travel Blogger Alyssa at Brewhouse over coffee ~~ she also agrees with me about the coffee here.
Brewhouse BOULEVARD 101 COMMERCIAL CENTRE Lot 3549, Ground Floor, Al-Bayt Square, Jalan Pujut-Miri, 98000 Miri, Sarawak
Opens: 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM Daily
Sin Siang Hai Furniture Mall
83, Lorong 10, Krokop, Sarawak, 98008 Miri, Malaysia
The Ruffles
In my previous Miri Cafe guide, Ruffles was recommended by quite a few readers so I asked around and they are known for having great desserts here
The ambience here feels very much like a tea house rather than a cafe ~~ which is maybe why their strengths is desserts and tea instead of coffee.
Alyssa raves about their tarts and some do recommend their crepe cakes here! Waffles are apparently good here too ~~ so give them a try!
Coffee is decent here ~~ but their desserts are the star at The Ruffles. Photos of The Ruffles courtesy of Alyssa
The Ruffles, Jalan Datuk Edward Jeli, 98000 Miri, Sarawak, Malaysia.
Opens: Tuesday to Sunday 10 am – 9pm
Piato Bistro
Piato Bistro is located around the Boulevard Commercial area and is famous for their brunches. I included this in my café hopping guide as they do serve decent coffee but I must say it’s a good place to have breakfast and brunch. I have to say the pricing is very reasonable especially for Bruneians. #exchangerate #bndrm
You can never go wrong with poached eggs, bacon and croissants ~~ mmmm
Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict ~~ *swoons* Enjoy with a nice cup of coffee to start your day!
Piato Bistro, Lot 2455, Boulevard Commercial Centre, 98000 Miri, Sarawak
Opens: Tues – Sun 7am to 12am (according to their FB)
Cafeine Port
Cafeine Port is located at the new popular area in Miri ~ at the Marina Parkcity Phase 2
Ambience wise – this place gives a groovy vibe to chillax at night ~~ more for the younger crowd in my opinion but different style of furniture and seating in this two floor cafe.
Quite a nice selection of cakes and coffee here too and I’ll say their coffee is good – can be considered top 3 in Miri.
Mum and Dad enjoying their coffee at Cafeine Port.
Cafeine Port Lot 1964, Marina Parkcity Phase 2 (opposite digi center) Miri, Sarawak
Open: 9am till 11pm Daily
Chapter One Cafe
Chapter One cafe is located at the same Marina Parkcity Phase 2 near Cafeine Port. I quite like their spacious and bright cosy ambience and at the back of the cafe there’s a corner which is dimly lit and provides more privacy.
One thing I really liked about this cafe is their library of books and comics. A good colourful selection that is so instagrammable and for you to pick a book to read while enjoying your coffee ~~
Lovely ambience ~~ and I quite like their logos on their mugs ~~
The latte art is pretty good and the coffee is decent here. Pop by to read a book or do your work over coffee ~~
Chapter One Cafe, Lot 2288, Jalan Marina 2/1,, Marina Square 2, Marina Parkcity, 98000 Miri, Sarawak, Malaysia
Opens: 10am – 11:30pm Daily
The Maker Cafe
I must say this is the first ever Christian Inspired Theme Café I’ve ever visited. They are a pretty cosy café with a lot of inspiring Christian decorations. The coffee is good here and they have quite a good assortment of cakes baked by home bakers – their cakes even have names of the people who baked them!
Bible Quotes to inspire your day!
Gotta love these mugs!!
I personally find their coffee decent and it’s quite a big glass – good for those who want value for money – but might be a little low on the coffee taste factor for coffee addicts.
What drew my attention was this cake though – very delicious chocolate cake! Definitely adds a lot of marks to this café!
The Maker Café, S/lot 2376, Ground Floor, Boulevard Commercial Centre, Jalan Boulevard 1, 98000 Miri
Opens: Mon – Sat: 10 am – 10 pm. Rests on Sunday since it’s a Christian Café
Route 66 Café
Route 66 Café is a little out of the way around Lutong area – but perhaps a good spot to visit on the way back from Miri to Brunei. The boss is a coffee lover and displays quite a range of beans for you to try. A serious coffee place in my opinion. Note: Recent reviews from my readers have shown their disappointment over the coffee here – I hope the boss will tackle the problem and improve the quality of the coffee.
Cookies, cakes, brownies and pies ~~ choose your nom noms ~~ I didn’t have space to try the food here – came for the coffee and I’m very pleased with their menu.
Quite a few selections for coffee ~ their signature MOKA Pot brew certainly caught my eye ~ basically a style of making coffee!
Choose your blend – then they will use this Moka Pot make the coffee for you ~~ you’ll have to be outside when you want flames ~ lol ~ for safety reasons.
Ahhh ~~~ cup of heaven ~~~ *bliss*
or you can just go for crowd fav good cup of café latte ~~
Café Route 66, Lot 1401 Of Parent Lot 991, Jalan Agama, Lutong 98000 Miri,
Opens: Mon to Fri: 7am – 7pm, Sat: 10am – 10pm, Closes on Sun.
Koffee Brick
Koffee Brick is another good place for coffee in Miri ~ located at Marina Parkcity as well. Very industrial style decor here ~
Their main strengths are their coffee here.
Alyssa raved about their Vietnamese Drip Coffee so be sure to try! Pics from Koffee Brick courtesy of Alyssa – do check out her blog!
Koffee Brick, Lot 1943, Marina Park City Phase 2 Miri, Sarawak
Opens: 10 am – 11pm Daily
Sao Bao - 烧包
Sao Bao is not a café but I feel it deserves a special mention in this post because I always tapao their buns here.
I especially like to sit outside the shop – order coffee or milo – while enjoying their buns ~~ steamed or baked ~~ mmm~~ Don’t you think they should open their own café and serve these gorgeous buns!?
A must visit for me when I’m in Miri ~~
Baked or steamed ~~ you are spoiled for choice.
Sneak peak at some of my favourite Butter Buns ~~ *drools*
People tapao their baked buns from Brunei on weekends – I come earlier to make sure I get my hands on them! Usually sold out very fast!
They even got these lava cheese tarts!
Sao Bao, Lot 1098,ground floor,jalan permaisuri,jalan caliandra., 98000 Miri,
