How to fix Open Live Writer Error 400 or Error 404? The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request or The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found

If you have been hit with this error when you are trying to update your blogger using Open Live Writer this January 2019. Chances are you will be faced with this error message! The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request.

The issue isn’t new. Usually it would be solved if you go to your Google Photos album and create a new album entitled “Open Live Writer” and it will fix the problem. Only this time --- this method doesn’t work anymore! There was mass panic in forums everywhere amongst the blogger community with many considering the switch to Wordpress or other platforms.

Fortunately, Open Live Writer official twitter actually issued an update to their software to fix the solution! Naturally I downloaded the program and installed it (make sure to uninstall the older version first)

That was supposed to fix the problem – but this has created another problem. When you install the new Open Live Writer. The program will keep opening a new window/new open live writer app every few seconds!! Felt like you got hit by a virus – and you gotta close the app or it will keep opening new ones! Now here’s how to solve the new problem!

Right click on your Open Live Writer Shortcut – Click on OPEN FILE LOCATION – then DELETE “Update.exe” from the folder. You will then need to create shortcut – just click back to the previous folder (should be app-0.6.3 folder) then locate openlivewriter.exe – create a shortcut and you will be able to solve this problem (OpenLiveWriter\app-0.6.3\OpenLiveWriter.exe")

However – a new problem arises – when trying to upload my new post with new photos – I realized that the error changed from “The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request” to “The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found”! It was super frustrating for me but I finally realized the problem! You need to go to Google Photos to do some adjustments! Don’t worry! You are almost done! Click https://photos.google.com/ to access your google photos.

Apparently the problem was having multiple Open Live Writer Albums! So what you need to do is to rename EVERY single Open Live Writer album you have in the past to other names such as Open Live Writer 1 or Open Live Writer 2 – MAKE SURE YOU DON’T DELETE THE ALBUMS or your previous pictures will not show up in your older blog posts. Just rename every single one of them and click on the TICK to save! https://photos.google.com/ I had to rename so many albums! Note: Renaming your albums will not lose your photos in your old blogposts so don’t worry!

After doing that – you might still get this error again! Firstly, make sure there are no more OPEN LIVE WRITER albums in your google photos (even the empty Open Live Writer albums). Now – once you make sure you renamed every single album – then close your Open Live Writer and RESTART your computer – my open live writer only worked after I restarted my computer! Congratulations! Your “The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request” and “The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found” is now FIXED!!
