Brunei Sungkai 2017: The Silk Road Restaurant
The Silk Road Restaurant only recently opened and is located just right opposite the Seri Q-Lap mall where the cinema is. This is one of the new places to check out this year for Sungkai!
The ambience does live up to its name as you can see a very oriental feel to the decor ~
It looks like one of those oriental heritage cafes you would find in Penang or Malacca ~~
My guests for the night, Karen, Farah and Michelle ~~ Silk Road cuisine is a combination of Chinese and Malay cuisine just to give you an idea of what to expect. Let’s have a look at what’s on the menu shall we?
First up ~~ the drinks station ~~ ooo ~~~ did anyone notice that jar of milo ~~?
mmmmm ~~~ pour me some of that please ~~ iced cold milo!
These drinks called Kathirah are pretty special and pretty as well ~~ kinda like a mix of Chinese tongsui meets bandung ~~~ pretty goood!
While restaurants serve dates usually to let your break your fast ~~ The Silk Road Restaurant offers alternatives to dates like these pickled plums or dried fruits ~~ *mouth waters*
A closer up view to make you drool ~~~ these things tend to wet our appetites to eat more!
These snacks really hit you right at the childhood! Good memories of having these during Raya or CNY ~~ you can have them now at the Silk Road Restaurant!
Biscuit Puteng ~~ hahaha ~~
oooo I love eating these!!
Ooooh these chewy sweet and sour goodness ~~~
Naturally I like to plate them up nicely to have a shot for instagram before devouring them ~~
Farah obviously wants me to finish shooting the pictures quickly so she can enjoy the snacks ~~
They have a good mix of salads ~~
Personally I am more of a rojak buah person to start my sungkai ~~ hee hee ~~
The fried Tempeh here with ikan bilis and peanus is actually pretty delicious!
Seriously ~~ who says no to Hati Buyah ~~ mmm ~~
Century eggs or Salted Eggs anyone? mmmm ~~
Wah ~~ they have Sushi sushi ~~~
Stir fried radish cake ~~ mmm ~~ usually you see those at dim sum restaurants ~~
These fried crispy wontons kept on coming onto my dinner plate~~ hu hu hu ~~~
Another one of my weakness ~~ curry puffs ~ came out while they were refilling the dishes ~~~ yummm!!
Oooo I love these!! Pai Tees ~~~ remember to drizzle the sauce ~~
Now on to the mains ~~ this steamed egg dish is pretty unique and rarely seen in Sungkai buffets ~~
Silk Road’s version of Basil Beef ~ mmm ~~
Soy mushroom chicken ~~~
Nyonya style Sambal Sotong ~~
Stir fried tofu with oyster sauce ~~
Their Curry Noodles are pretty good ~~ it’s quick thick and you would even think its curry fish head gravy~~ mmm ~~
Mmmm ~~ can easily whack two bowls of this ~~
I did the most evil thing of all ~~ adding slices of lamb to my curry noodles ~~ wait did someone mention lamb?!
Yeshhh ~~ Lamb Mandhi is part of their menu ~~~ Ooooh la la ~~~
Ooooh yes ~~ slice them ~ slice them good baby ~~~~~~~~~ *DROOLS*
Speaking of slicing ~ do you know they serve PEKING DUCK?! OMG OMG OMG!!
I should had requested for these duck slices ~~ to enjoy with the curry noodles !!!! Ooooo next time if I visit I will do that!!
Keeping the wrappers warm ~~
*DROOLS*
I simply enjoy Peking Duck and I kept going back for more!!
They also have fresh off the charcoal grill satays ~~ mmm ~~
Hmmmmm ~~~ satayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy~~~
They got some traditional Malay Kuih ~~ such as the Kuih Bingka ~~ and Sarang Semut ~~mmm
mmmm ~~ now pass me some iced milo pls ~~~ lol
A group of bros enjoying Sungkai together at The Silk Road Restaurant ~~~ Karen took this pic on my behalf using the Huawei P10 Plus.
The girls certainly had fun posing for my photos and nom nom-ing the lovely food ~~
The Silk Road Restaurant’s buffet is $15 for adults and $10 for kids ~~ considering that you have Peking Duck and Lamb Mandhi alone is already a super bargain for that price. Do follow them on Instagram @thesilkroadbn to check the latest updates of what’s on the menu for the night to make your bookings!
Call 2230471 to make your reservations ~~ it was full house the night I went!
