Brunei Hidden Gems: My new favourite foodie spot in Lambak!
While this place might not be a hidden gem to many residents of Lambak – this could be the secret they want to keep to themselves for there’s quite a lot of good eats in just one area! Get ready to check out this new spot for good and cheap eats in Lambak!
The food stall that needs no introduction is Nasi Katok Lily that used to be in Madang but has now proudly moved to this foodie spot in Lambak!
Nasi Katok Lily allows you to select how spicy your sambal can be – they also have a fiery super hot sambal if you dare to request for it! Strictly for those who have a deathwish ~~ (haha I’m exaggerating of course – but do tell me if you died a little inside if you try it!)
If you see a long queue in Brunei – you KNOW it’s gonna be good eats!
Now now Brunei Foodie Marul ~~ be patient ~~ the food will be coming soon ~~
What’s so special about Nasi Katok Lily is that it’s not only a piece of beautifully grilled chicken unlike typical deep fried ones, the rice is also fragrant nasi ayam rice ~~ and it’s only $1 – ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! SO WORTH IT LA OMG!!
Marul being Marul ~~ ordered two pieces of chicken for $2 ~~ yummers!!!
Their tongkeng is also grilled (minus all the red colouring) and is seriously moist and good!
After we had our Nasi Katok Lily ~~ we went to the store on its right ~~ and I saw that they serve Penang Laksa ~~~
For $3 a bowl ~~ their Penang Assam Laksa is a good deal although the flavour is not there yet as compared to the ones I’ve tasted in Penang but if you got cravings ~~ you can have some here.
What caught our attention was that they do Indomie Goreng here ~~~ and they also serve Nasi Goreng Belutak ~~~ I decided to special request something different ~~~
TADAAAA ~~ INDOMIE GORENG BELUTAK!! OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG ~~~~ SOOO SOOO SOOO SEDAP MAX!!
Of course ~~ be sure to request for sunny side up egg/telur mata lembu ~~~ Ooooh yes please!! #foodporn #onlyinBrunei
Right next to this stall is the Lamb Skewers for $1 stall ~ and I have to say – they are pretty good value!
Good texture ~~~ right balance of sweetness ~~~ thumbs up to these lamb skewers!
There’s also a kid right opposite the Indomie/Penang Laksa Stall that sells stir fried kway teow ~~
Seriously fun to watch a youthful boy cooking with such fiery control of the wok ~~~
The Kway Teow with chicken is only $2 ~~ LOL ~~ Soooo worth it ~~~ next time I’ll request to cook more ‘hangus’ a bit cos I like my char kway teow with a hint of wok hei ‘burnt taste’
Last but not the least ~~ is the Roti Bakar place where we order our DESSERT ~~
You can choose your spread but I’m always a peanut butter and kaya kinda guy ~~ even my Hua Ho waffles I always ask for peanut butter + kaya ~
I’ve tried roti being pan fried and they claim its roti bakar ~~~ ladies and gentleman ~~ the REAL roti bakar is really toasted using CHARCOAL! YES YES YES!
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG CAN YOU SEE THE OOOZING PEANUT BUTTER AND KAYA FILLING ~~~ AND HOW TOASTY THAT LOOKS?!
I’m so sorry my health conscious friends ~~ I know this is far from the healthiest dessert ~~ but how can I say NO to this?! OMG OMG OMG!! OM NOM NOM NOM NOM ~~~ This is the $2 thicker toast but they have $1 thinner ones ~~~ There are plenty of other stalls here but we didn’t try them as we were pretty full from just these few stalls!
THANIS! MANA?! WHERE IS THIS PLACE?! It is located in Lambak Area – here is a map where you can use to find your way – basically very near Soon Lee and the famous Noralizah and Iskandar House of Curry. Just turn into Jalan 10 Selatan – then turn in at Jalan 1. You will find Nasi Katok Lily on your left. Parking can be a problem here as its a sports centre with a futsal field so there will be lots of people here. Be sure to carpool!
