Brunei Restaurant Review: Pondok Sari Wangi New Menus

Pondok Sari Wangi has been busy when it comes to researching new dishes while at the same time trying to improve their great classics. As a fellow food blogger, I must admit I’ve tried and tasted some of the food with the manager, while providing feedback and urging them to put some of the impressive dishes on the new menu. Alas – it’s not as simple as that – putting new items in restaurant menus does take a lot of planning behind the scenes!

One such dish is the Ayam Rendang. I had quite a big meal prior to meeting the manager to try out their Ayam Rendang. I told them to just give me a small piece as I was pretty full. After a bite of the chicken, I was hooked and proceeded to finish a whole chicken. True story! From then on, this Ayam Rendang would only appear on special occasions or for special orders but was never made available to the public.

The good news is – Pondok Sari Wangi finally included this dish in their new menu for the Gadong Branch. Finally – the public will get to enjoy one of my favourite dishes! Behold – the mouth watering AYAM RENDANG Pondok Sari Wangi Style

The Szechuan style fried chicken is another new addition the their menu. It’s deep fried crispy chicken, drizzled with a sweet and spicy Szechuan style sauce. It has a good kick to it but not overly spicy with a good hint of honey.

You may have sampled Pondok Sari Wangi’s Indonesian style grilled fish but they can cook fish using Chinese methods too – such as this deep fried Seabass in garlic soy sauce.

Braised Seabass with Japanese tofu and Vegetables. Check out their whole fish menu for many varieties of sauces to match your liking.

This is their grilled squid with a special Indonesian style thick curry sauce – which I thought was peanut sauce from the thickness of the sauce but it matches well with the grilled squid.

Gulai Sotong Isi is another squid dish which is stuffed and cooked in this Indonesian style coconut gravy ~ oooh yes ~~

Speaking of squid – their deep fried crispy baby squid is DA BOMB! Super crispy! Imagine if you’re watching football or a movie and you have a big bowl of this! Once you Nom you can’t Stop! Om Nom nom nom nommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!! *CRUNCH CRUNCH*

Be sure to give their Wagyu Beef Sate Maranggi a try ~ one of the most tender satays I’ve ever tasted and you gotta love the spiced packed flavours! Heaven on a stick!

There’s quite a lot of choices when it comes to vegetables in their new menu but we really enjoyed their Stir fried Pakis with sambal belacan. Hmmm …. those living overseas will certainly miss this!

I had quite a lot of Sambal Udang Petai before but have you ever tried Udang Gala Sambal Petai? Hmmm….. best part is always sucking out the goodness from the prawn heads ~~ hmmm …. brainsssssssssssssss *sluuurps*

I’m also fond of this Udang Gulung dish, which is a prawn rolled deep fried pancake. Well – I love deep fried rolls ~~ so yeah ~~ ATTACK~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!

Another interesting dish to try out is their GAN NAM Style noodles – which does not have any links with Psy’s popular hit song but it’s actually a Chinese dish – using kolomee noodles, deep fried till crispy and drizzled with a spicy and sweet tomato sauce~~

Daging Sambal Bajak ~ beef simmered in Indonesian style spicy chili paste until tender!

Many had not tried Pondok Sari Wangi’s delicious crab dishes – my favourites are their Padang Sauce Crabs – which can rival Singapore’s chili crabs and this Deep Fried Crab with Garlic, part of the new Gadong branch menu.

Last but not least – the good news is that the ever so popular Bebek (Duck) Penyet which was only available in Citi Square’s Branch, will finally be available in both Gadong and Serusop branch! Oh Rejoice!!

There’s still plenty of new dishes in the new menu that’s not included in this blog so be sure to check them out as well! Who knows? You might discover something you like even better!
